Project OneRollFifty2: A Year-Long Film Photography Challenge

Have you been wanting to test your hand in film photography? Feeling like you want to pick up your old analog camera and get back into film again? Get a little inspiration from photographer Travis Lawton and his Project OneRollFifty2:

Like so many others, Lawton hadn’t used film cameras since he was a small child. Since he usually shot professionally with digital, he felt the need to grow as a photographer and experience the joys of film photography.

Lawton decided to shoot one roll of film per week for 52 weeks, thus Project OneRollFifty2 was born. He slowly added to his film camera collection throughout the journey. At the end of the year, he’d spent about $1,000 on the whole project, including cameras, film, and processing.

“The result of the project was well worth the money. I ended up with a ton of cool images, a great camera collection and I’m a better photographer because of it.”

The low pressure, year long project is a great way to get into film photography for first timers and past shooters alike. You can usually pick up a moderately priced analog camera at a local second hand store or online. Film can be found at specialty photography stores, large superstores, some small pharmacies, and of course, online.

So get out there, grab yourself an old camera, and get shooting!
