5 Low-Light Photography Mistakes (and How to Correct them)

Low light photography is a struggle for most beginners for good reason. Without sufficient light, it’s naturally difficult to make a usable exposure unless you’re capable of keeping your body entirely still for prolonged periods. Luckily, getting the hang of the process is far from impossible – you just have to know how to compensate for the lack of light.

Photographer Jason Vong goes over some of the most common roadblocks new low-light photographers face. And, more often than not, the solution necessary is pretty easy to implement.

Once you understand how to tackle some of low-light photography’s most common issues, you can divert and start experimenting with settings, additional lighting, and more. The key is being able to understand how basic features like ISO and shutter speed may help or hinder your shots.

Learning to let in light without creating further imaging problems will open all sorts of photographic doors. Of course, you won’t be able to master low-light situations overnight. But, hopefully, some of Vong’s advice will help you solve whatever issues that may lie waiting in the darkness.
