Camera Features for Apple’s New iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus Announced

They say the best camera is the one you have with you. iPhone photographers have certainly proven that statement true in recent years. And now that camera is getting even better. Today Apple announced the exciting details of its new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, which will be released on September 19:

According to Apple, these are the specs for the iPhone 6 (4.7 inch) and 6 Plus (larger 5.5 inch display) cameras:

  • New 8-megapixel iSight camera with 1.5µ pixels
  • Autofocus with Focus Pixels (phase detection)

The camera is reported to have faster and more accurate autofocus capabilities.

  • Optical image stabilization (iPhone 6 Plus only) to compensate for camera shake
  • True Tone flash
  • Five-element lens
  • Hybrid IR filter
  • Backside illumination sensor
  • Sapphire crystal lens cover
  • Auto image stabilization
  • Auto HDR for photos

Software automatically combines two exposures into one.

  • Improved face detection
  • Exposure control
  • High-resolution panoramas (up to 43 megapixels)
  • Burst mode capable of taking 10 photos per second
  • Tap to focus
  • Photo geotagging
  • Timer mode
  • Overhauled front-facing camera that lets in 80% more light
  • Enhanced slow motion video capabilities
