Los Angeles at Night: Amazing Time-lapse Photography

This video has been making waves in the world of time-lapse photography (half a million views within the week). An innovative photographer named Colin Rich dedicated about 6 months of his time to create this photographic masterpiece entitled LA Light. His goal was to capture the the electric radiance of Los Angeles at night. Take a moment, sit back, and enjoy:

Colin says “Shooting time lapses is a labor of love and a study in patience. This video is dedicated to the memory of my Grandmother, Mary Johnson who passed away after battling cancer. She spent most of her life bettering the lives of others and was the kindest person I’ve ever known.”

From what I could gather, Colin reportedly used Canon EOS 5D Mark II and Canon EOS 7D DSLRs along with Canon 15mm, 24mm, 24-105mm, 70-300mm and Carl Zeiss 35mm, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.2 lenses. Some additional equipment included a Kessler CineSlider with the Revolution pan and tilt head system and other custom contraptions he built himself for zoom motor control.

Cinematography, direction, and editing was done by Colin Rich. William Ahmanson was a producer on the project and the song was provided by Cinematic Orchestra.

As an LA resident, I am especially inspired by this, he really captured the energy of this amazing city.
