Landscape Photographer Shares His Top 7 Tips

If you’re reading this, it’s likely you’ve already come across dozens of other resources for landscape photography tips. We are truly blessed to be living in an era where information is so readily available. But while having such easy access to information is great, it becomes even more important to be able to sieve the right from the wrong, and the proven ones from the vague. In this video, photographer Alex Schult shares from his own experience, 7 tips that helped him improve his landscape photography:

In Schult’s experience, gear plays a role in improving and adding a new perspective to your shots. He emphasizes that you use tripods for taking landscape photos. Besides helping you take sharper images, tripods also slow you down and force you to be more engaged with your shots. It also opens up opportunities for long exposures and can add a creative flair to your photos as well. Then there’s lenses. While wide angles lenses are mostly preferred, it’s nice to try your hand at a longer lens too. It will force you to look at smaller areas and find the beauty within them. Of course, this helps you expand your creative horizons.

“Experimenting with different focal lengths will go a long way in helping you develop a creative eye.”

Then there’s some important behavioral tips that Schult shares that you can incorporate in your working methods. He talks about the importance of planning, and the tools you can use to plan your landscape photoshoot. It’s also important to keep in mind that every single shot that you take won’t turn out to be a master piece. Don’t be discouraged if your success rate is low. Instead work to improve it. Before pressing that shutter button, think of why you’re taking the shot, and emphasize the purpose. This will definitely help you add a bit of value to your images and make them stand out.
