Interesting Photo of the Day: American Pharoah on the Cover of Sports Illustrated

This year, a three-year-old American Thoroughbred racehorse, American Pharoah, achieved something no other horse has in the past 37 years. He won the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes, earning him the Triple Crown. The June 15, 2015, cover of Sports Illustrated both celebrates the horse’s victory and shows us how technology has changed the way we experience sporting events:

The last American Triple Crown was awarded in 1978 to a Thoroughbred named Affirmed. There were no cell phones. And fans lived without instantly uploaded videos of the races (like this one):
