Interesting Photo of the Day: Tokyo Crosswalk

Patterns are important elements of composition. However, if you find ways to break the repetition in those patterns, the image becomes even more engaging. The sudden breakage in continuity can catch viewers by surprise. Take the following image by photographer Benjamin Lee:

While it’s easy to think that the image was taken with a drone, Lee actually used a DSLR with a 24–70mm lens.

“Shooting from tall adjacent buildings overlooking the crossings usually do the trick.”

How Lee managed to take this simple image with a sophisticated feel is an amazing achievement. He had to wait patiently for the last person crossing the street. The black and white of the crossing matching the black clothing of the man makes this image even more interesting!
