Wild West Themed Composite Photography

Composite photography is beginning to gain even more momentum as the advancing digital technology market is making it easier and easier. Of course, the term easy is used loosely, as the amount of work that goes into a composite shoot and post production is still pretty inspiring. Just ask Caleb Kuhl, the photographer who is credited with creating the Wild West composite images that you can see below. Plus, you can take a behind the scenes look at the making of the series right here:

As you saw in the video, Kuhl makes the images by staging one section of each image at a time, photographing it, then moving on to the next section. After he has photographed each segment of the individual photographs they are layered together to create the final composite images.

  1. I know a good site to try is http://compositeplanet.com. Josh Rossi does this technique very well. There are many other sites to find this surreal composite effect, but this is a good place to start.

  2. Tyler says:

Does anyone know how this effect was achieved. I understad the stacking of the photos to combine the characters but Im curious as to how the surreal look was achieved.
