No one has ever been satisfied with the photo on their driver’s license. We all thought it was just bad lighting or the stress of actually having to be in the DMV that contorted our faces into scowls. Thanks to a video created by The Huffington Post we now know the truth: the DMV photographer takes sick pleasure in seeing our face fall the moment we see our new ID:

Some helpful tips for making a horrible photo:

  • Count down from 5 but take the photo on 3.
  • Confuse the subject by having them look at a decoy camera.
  • Blind your subject with the flash.

We’ve always suspected it but now we know, the DMV has made taking a bad photo into an art form.

    I’m shocked that you have personal identifying information – driver’s license number, address, name, DOB – in live images on this page. I hope those are not real people. If they are, you should redact DL number, address, and DOB right away. That is a massive security issue.
