Stalked by a Lion: Wildlife Photography

Imagine the feelings that must overcome a person when a lioness prowls 15 feet away from them in the wild. Wildlife photographer Mattias Klum does an excellent job describing such a face-off in a short telling he recorded for National Geographic.  “To do what I do, you don’t have to be some tarzan jungle jim, you have to be the contrary. You have to be soft; hopefully intelligent. You have to read the environment and you have to be modest. Otherwise I would have been eaten a long time ago. “

His story begins with him sitting, patiently waiting by a stream for an animal to get a drink. He was surprised when a lioness came down the hillside toward the creek and unknowingly walked right up to Klum. In a split second, Klum had to decide to make himself known without appearing as a threat to the lioness. Having discovered Klum’s presence, the lion crouched to the ground and continued prowling closer to the photographer. What happened next is nothing short of a miracle.
