Miniature Macro Photography Project Setup: The Wardrobe

Whether you’re looking for deep and insightful or light and surreal, the internet is filled with creative talent, which can make it a little difficult to stand out among the crowd—especially in the photography industry. Despite the odds, commercial photographer and graphic designer Felix Hernandez has taken the world by storm with his amazing miniaturized art form. To help capture a closer look into Hernandez’s delicate work process, check out this amazing behind the scenes view of his project, The Wardrobe:

Hernandez’s work is a mixture of different macro photography techniques and intricately detailed miniatures. And in a day and age when Photoshop and digital effects are the new norm, it’s impressive to see what a good photographer can do with a little time, inspiration, and resourcefulness. As with his other projects, The Wardrobe was shot onsite at a seaside location.

At first glance, there may not appear to be anything unique about the mysterious wardrobe used for the focus of his piece, but once you take a step back, you’ll realize just how impressive it really is.

Once Hernandez had his location, his vision started to take shape. He created each miniaturized prop as necessary. For instance, when he decided to create the ruins, he began the construction using Styrofoam.

He put attention into every detail, working meticulously to get the scene just right before taking any shots.

Although his photography captured for The Wardrobe was produced using macro photography techniques, the final images were post-processed using a combination of several different shots. It’s amazing the detail that goes into this photographer’s work.
