“Then and Now” photos are an excellent way to explore the passage of time and how it affects us and our surroundings. Now, marking the 100-year anniversary of the beginning of the First World War, a number of historical then-and-now’s are popping up. Take a look at this time-lapse video created by Belgian photographer Stijn Bollaert:
Created for an exhibition on forts around Antwerp, Belgium, Stijn’s video juxtaposes photos of places in and around Antwerp in 1914 with 2014 photographs shot from the same perspectives in the same locations. It’s amazing to see how some places changed astronomically and others hardly at all.
In the end we come away with a profound sense of place and the continuity of time. How has the area where you live changed in the last 100 years?
