The Taxi Driver Photographer

Next time you’re on a cab ride in the Big Apple, it might be worth taking the time to get to know your driver. You might be fortunate enough to hail David Bradford, a cabbie who uses his driving duties as a way to experience the city and capture it’s personality using a small Yaschica point and shoot camera. Watch this short clip about his mission below:

Before Bradford took to photography, he had already developed himself as an artist through drawing, a passion he dedicated 20 years to. His creative abilities were easily transferred into the photography medium as you can see in these samples of Bradford’s portfolio. He shoots primarily in black and white, on what appears to 35mm film. The inherent graininess and grit of the film really lends itself to Bradford’s style.

“The first day behind the wheel I realized, wow, I really have a front row seat on New York City. When I have a camera in hand I feel engaged with the city.”

Lovely video. Really goes to show how one can combine ‘day job’ and hobby so effectively and satisfactorily. Very creative of him. Most of the photographs are really wonderful. He has the advantage of having a point of view hardly anyone else can have and he makes the most of it. An excellent example to be quoted to those who lament lack of time and opportunity to make photographs.
Thanks for the article. Liked it very much.
    Sincerely yours,

The man obviously loves his surroundings & sees subjects everywhere. – Anyone can do the same thing wherever you are. Life is full of fascinating subjects & they’re all around us, whether we’re in the city or in the country.
