Photographing Cars in Bad Weather Conditions

While it’s not entirely impossible to take photos in harsh conditions, there’s a lot to be desired when sticking one’s head and photography equipment out the window of a car going 100 km/h. Photographers Lauri Laukkanen and Sakari Mäkelä demonstrate how finding the right angle for a photo can be challenging in freezing cold weather, but these two somehow find it in them to take turns assisting the other in getting their shots:

Working under extreme weather conditions puts additional pressure on the photographers to get the shot as quickly as possible, and it’s even more difficult to do that without a team to assist you.

The lighting can be very tricky because strobes make the snow easily visible and it takes some Photoshopping to hide the bit of snowfall that comes with the territory of shooting outdoors in this kind of weather.

By shooting the car from different angles and later combining the images in Photoshop, they achieved an even exposure throughout the photo, complete with skid marks in the snow which they also photographed separately.
