Top Nikon D200 Camera Reviews
LetsGoDigital wrote a review of the
Nikon D200 and said: "The
Nikon D200 is a truly superb camera to work with; it is fast, works intuitively
and will rarely disappoint the user. All of this is emphasised by the results.
Good colours, that can be altered to your heart's content, and an excellent auto
focus ensure countless hours of fun in photography. The matrix metering will
generate perfectly exposed images in virtually every case. In addition, the user
has the option to choose a spot metering or centre-weighted metering for
exceptional light circumstances."
Ken Rockwell
reviews the
Nikon D200
and said: "The resolution difference isn't important. What is important is
that the D200 offers numerous little improvements in convenience, speed and ease
of use, like more buttons dedicated to individual functions. For instance, the
Three Kings, which serious photographers reset almost shot-to-shot, QUAL, WB and
ISO, now have dedicated new buttons on top (see photo below) instead of being
shared with playback buttons on the back as they are on the D70s."
PC Magazine wrote a review of the
Nikon D200 and said: "Perhaps the smartest innovation
in the D200 is its ability to control an external flash wirelessly
from the built-in pop-up flash. Controlling an external strobe
usually requires another full-size one to be plugged into the
camera's hot shoe. Some cameras, like the D70s, let you control the
external unit from the camera but don't let you use the pop-up
simultaneously."
Imaging Resource wrote a review on the
Nikon D200 and said: "The
relatively minor (in my view) issue of the "corduroy" streaking
aside, the Nikon D200 is simply a fantastic camera to shoot
with, and its other image-quality parameters are absolutely
first-rate. We'll have our usual in-depth review with detailed
image analysis posted eventually, but the early results show
that Nikon has come up with another real winner. There's a lot
of sophistication in the D200's operation and available controls
that just aren't available in the market at less than twice its
price."
Bjorn Rorslett reviewed the
Nikon D200
and said: "The price puts the D200 firmly in reach of a huge
customer base, much more so than the case is for the
professional-targeted D2X. I'm certain many of the potential
customers will be more than a little intimidated by the sheer
complexity of all the menu settings and subtle nuances of these
options. Set to default values, however, the D200 churns out
very respectable image quality, and as you gain experience with
it, the diversity of options takes on a more understandable
meaning."

Another feature inherited from the D2X is the 3D-Colour Matrix
Metering II, which delivers optimised exposure using new
technology developed for the Nikon 1,005 pixel RGB exposure/Colour
Matrix Metering sensor. This system evaluates seven parameters
in every shot – including brightness, colour, contrast, selected
focus area, camera-to-subject distance - and references this
data against an on-board database of over 30,000 actual
photographic scenes to instantly and accurately calculate the
final value.
Professional results
A fundamental feature of the D200 is a newly developed 10.2
effective megapixel Nikon DX Format CCD image sensor that
captures high level sharpness and colour at 3,872 x 2,592 pixels
size – delivering the right resolution to support significant
image enlargements and enable greater freedom for creative
cropping. The highly sensitive new sensor covers an ISO range
from 100 – 1600, rising to 3200 in Hi-1.
High speed image processing is inherited from the Nikon D2x,
guaranteeing fine colour gradations and smooth transitions. A
new Optical Low Pass Filter helps prevent moiré, colour fringing
and shifting to get even greater colours.
For added control, saturation and highlights of a shot can be
controlled easily using the D200’s RBG histograms on the LCD
monitor.
In addition, new image optimisation modes enable D200 users to
produce results that more closely match their intended results,
with the ability to optimise sharpening, tone and contrast,
colour, saturation and hue in choices including Softer, Normal,
More vivid, Portrait and Black and White in-camera.
