Sony Handycam DCR-SR52E News Release Summary:
8th January, 2007 - Ideal for everyone who’s on the move, the latest Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Handycam range from Sony offers impressively long recording time and longer battery STAMINA – without the hassle of carrying extra tapes.

Ultra-compact, lightweight and easy to use, the new HDD range from Sony Handycam records footage on to the camcorder’s Hard Disk which can be easily searched, viewed, or downloaded to a PC.

Longer Shooting Times – High-capacity HDD and STAMINA
Starting with 30GB on entry models, HDD Handycam offers up to 60GB hard disk capacity. More than any other available camcorder, this range-topping capacity is enough to store up to 41 hours 50 minutes of video or 9,999 still pictures. High-range models have also been upgraded to 40GB HDD capacity from current 30GB, providing space to store up to 28 hours of video. The new line-up’s class-leading storage capacity is complemented by equally impressive battery STAMINA: the new-generation H-Series InfoLITHIUM™ battery delivers up to 10 hours continuous shooting (SR32E, with optional battery) from a single charge.

Crash Protection – save your memories
There’s only one chance to capture special moments when they happen, and HDD Handycam adopts a twofold HDD Smart Protection strategy to safeguard against the inadvertent loss of precious pictures. A physical shock absorber protects the drive against physical jarring and bumps during operation, while 3G sensor detects abrupt motion in three dimensions to distinguish accidental drops from other body movements. Video stream buffering also ensures that recording continues smoothly.

Handycam Station – the easy way to enjoy your results at home
After shooting, there’s no need to fiddle with cables when you want to store, edit and enjoy the results at home. Supplied with all HDD models, Handycam Station can be linked permanently to a TV via its analogue connector, while the Hi-Speed USB port allows direct digital connection to a PC. It also doubles as a charger – just drop in your Handycam and power up while enjoying your new shots. One-Touch Disc Burn function is now 1.5x faster, allowing an hour’s worth of video to be recorded onto DVD using a connected PC in around 20 minutes.

Better picture quality – for movie and still images
Shooting in low light is also enhanced for all models with a new Auto Slow Shutter mode that automatically boosts minimum illumination performance up to 1.5lux compared with 5 lux on previous models.

All models accept Memory Stick DUO removable media for still picture recording and offer Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connectivity with a PC for editing and back-up.

Optional Accessories
From lenses, microphones and high-power batteries to tripods and stylish carry cases – there’s a full range of official accessories to help you get even more from your Handycam.

New-generation InfoLITHIUM™ H Series batteries feature Hybrid Lithium-Ion cells and ActiFORCE™ battery technology for higher capacity and faster recharging plus a more accurate, responsive indication of remaining capacity. Compatible with all latest Handycam models, three new batteries (NP-FH100, NP-FH70 and NP-FH50) offer capacities of 3980mAh, 1800mAh and 900mAh respectively. All can also be used with older camcorders using P Series batteries.

Two High Grade Lenses feature a newly-developed optical design that reduces their size and weight – making them an ideal match for latest ultra-portable Handycam models. Certified for High Definition video and still image use, the VCL-HG1737C tele conversion lens and VCL-HG0737C wide conversion lens are compatible with HD as well as higher-specification standard definition models. Two new wide angle lenses have also been introduced. The VCL-HA07A and the extremely compact VCL-E07A offer wider compatibility with the Handycam range at an even more affordable price.

Other additions include stylish carry cases and the SPK-HCC Sports Pack that waterproofs your Handycam down to 5 metres.

The Sony Handycam DCR-SR52E will be available throughout Europe from March 2007 and will be available to pre-order at www.sonystyle-europe.com
