Sony DCR-DVD106E News Release Summary:
8th January, 2007 - Whether it’s a special event, the trip of a lifetime, or simply capturing the spontaneous moments with family and friends which make everyday life unique, Sony’s new DVD Handycam range offers stamina, a powerful zoom and records directly on to DVD, for ease of sharing and archiving footage.

Storing nearly two hours of great-looking images and 5.1ch surround sound on 8cm DVD media, the newest Sony DVD Handycam range captures even more memories for your money.

More record time, more STAMINA
Every Sony DVD Handycam offers the ‘shoot-eject-play’ convenience of direct playback on a standard DVD player. With the addition of DVD+R DL (Dual-Layer) recording, all new models can now record for a maximum of 110 minutes, almost doubling the 60 minutes maximum record time of previous-generation DVD Handycam. The latest Handycam range doesn’t just store more on every DVD: it offers greater battery stamina than predecessor models, too. The new H-Series InfoLITHIUM battery dramatically boosts continuous recording STAMINA to 9 hours (DVD106E, with optional battery) from a single charge.

More comfortable, simpler operation
Image quality and new features aside, latest models are even easier and more convenient to use. Every DVD Handycam now includes a Colour Viewfinder for framing and reviewing shots, while additional Record Start/Stop and zoom buttons are thoughtfully placed on the border of the camcorder’s flip-out LCD screen. The new-generation Home menu and Help function on the LCD touch screen assures intuitive operation.

All models feature support for Memory Stick DUO removable media for still image recording, Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connectivity to a PC for editing, and compatibility with wide range of DVD-R / -RW / +RW / +R DL media.

Optional Accessories
From lenses, microphones and high-power batteries to tripods and stylish carry cases – there’s a full range of official accessories to help you get even more from your Handycam.

New-generation InfoLITHIUM™ H Series batteries feature Hybrid Lithium-Ion cells and ActiFORCE™ battery technology for higher capacity and faster recharging plus a more accurate, responsive indication of remaining capacity. Compatible with all latest Handycam models, three new batteries (NP-FH100, NP-FH70 and NP-FH50) offer capacities of 3980mAh, 1800mAh and 900mAh respectively. All can also be used with older camcorders using P Series batteries.

Two High Grade Lenses feature a newly-developed optical design that reduces their size and weight – making them an ideal match for latest ultra-portable Handycam models. Certified for high resolution video and still image use, the VCL-HG1737C tele conversion lens and VCL-HG0737C wide conversion lens are compatible with DVD406E and DVD506E. Two new wide angle lenses have also been introduced. The VCL-HA07A and the extremely compact VCL-E07A offer wider compatibility with the Handycam range at an even more affordable price.

Other additions include stylish carry cases and the SPK-HCC Sports Pack that waterproofs your Handycam down to 5 metres.
