Samsung SC-DC565 News Release Summary:
SAMSUNG Explodes Into DVD Camcorder Category With Four New Models

Full Family Led By the Innovations Award Winning SC-DC565,
The World’s First DVD Camcorder to Offer 26x Zoom and Full Compatibility
With Most DVD and Memory Card Formats

Las Vegas, NV - Samsung Electronics, a worldwide leader in camcorder innovation, propels the DVD camcorder market to new heights with four advanced new models. Led by the SC-DC565, Samsung's 2006 DVD camcorders offer compatibility with all key single layer DVD formats as well as dual layer +R disc -- an industry first. Samsung's entire DVD camcorder lineup will be on display during CES 2006 at the Samsung booth, #11033 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center from January 5th - 8th.

The 2005 CES Innovations Award-winning SC-DC565 is designed for consumers who want a high-quality, full-featured DVD camcorder that allows for convenient, direct recording to high-capacity, single and dual layer DVD discs, as well as compatibility with the most popular memory card formats. The SC-D565 combines a 1.1 MegaPixel DVD camcorder with a 2.7" wide LCD for impressive image clarity and usability. The camcorder works with DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW and DVD+R single layer formats plus DVD+R Dual layer format providing consumer convenience and flexibility. Also, the 4-in-1 memory card slot is compatible with the leading memory card formats: Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, MMC and SD cards.

The 26x Optical Zoom (a world best) / 1200x Digital Zoom and industry-leading 10-second power-on and lead time let consumers shoot high quality video in an instant. The SC-D565 records and plays high quality MPEG4 video (720 x 480/30fps) in true 16:9 wide-screen format and also includes a DVD-RW disc bundle for added convenience.

"Samsung is proud to offer consumers the broadest format compatibility and choices in a DVD camcorder," said Aaron Novak, Marketing Manager for Camcorders, Samsung Electronics America. "Today's consumers don't have time to worry about which DVDs will function with their camcorders so Samsung has eliminated that concern. Our 2006 DVD camcorders epitomize Samsung's response to customer needs with the best available DVD format compatibility, superior memory card compatibility and the shortest power-on time."

The DVD camcorders can act as web cams and take digital still photos at 1152 x 864 resolution. Both models also offer 16:9 recording format to capture the action in breathtaking cinema format. The SC-D564 features a 2.7" wide LCD, and comes with a strobe and remote. The SC-D563 features a 2.5" LCD.

In addition to MPEG4 recording, the units can double as web cams, and capture 800 x 600 still images for true versatility in a DVD camcorder. The SC-DC164 comes with a remote control; the SC-DC165 includes a remote control, light, analog in, and DVD-RW disc bundle. The SC-DC163 offers DVD-RW/-R/+RW/+R single layer plus DVD+R Dual layer format compatibility, a 4-in-1 multi-memory card slot and a 2.5" LCD. The camcorder features a 680k pixel CCD and 30x Optical/1200x Digital Zoom for superior picture with 16:9 recording capability. USB 2.0 and PictBridge technology offer quick, convenient file transfer to a PC and easy printing to PictBridge compatible printers. The unit can also act as a web cam and digital still camera.

The four models will be available in March; the SC-DC565 at MAP $599.99.
