Color or Kelvin Temperatures in Photography

Eric Hartwell writes, "What
you therefore need to be aware of is the different colours or
“temperatures” at different times of the day and in different
situations. Pure blue sky is blue (no surprises there). Shade
from a blue sky is still blue but not “as blue”. If the sky is
overcast then it is even “less blue” and in the early afternoon
it is positively “more yellow”. As the day wears on it becomes
“more orangey” and then “more red”."

Choose the Right Lens for Portrait Photography
Eric
Hartwell writes, "But, if you want to take good
portrait photos you need to think about investing in the right
sort of lens. If you want your subjects to be pleased with the
results of your work, then make sure you get a lens fit for the
job. And that means, one with the correct focal length.
Lenses with a focal length less than 80mm are no good. They make
noses look too big because the photographer has to get in too
close. The ideal portrait lens has a focal length in the range
90mm to 135mm. These keep the natural proportions of the face as
you see with the naked eye."

Megapixels Required for Certain Print Sizes
However a rough estimation of how good a picture will be
based on the number of pixels can be calculated and is actually
pretty easy to do. When evaluating how good a print will be
there is a measurement that is simple to use and provides a good
estimation for the quality - it is called DPI (dots per inch).
DPI is actually the number of pixels along one inch. To get a
good print you would need a certain DPI (on both X and Y axis).
