HP Photosmart R725 Initial Review by Digital Camera Info

Digital Camera Info reviewed the HP Photosmart R725 and said: "The Design Gallery is both a success and a failure. It provides some feasible and interesting options like Kaleidoscope, but also includes an aggravating border mode that doesn’t let users dictate color. Although this feature isn’t going to satisfy those already familiar and comfortable with Photoshop, these settings will most likely appeal to users who want a postproduction experience without expending much effort."

How to Use Depth of Field to Your Advantage

Eric Hartwell writes, "You may want a large depth of field so that as much as possible is in focus. This is a technique particularly useful in landscape photography. In this case, move away from the subject and use a small aperture.

On the other hand, you may wish a small depth of field. For a close up shot (for example of the bumble bee) the shallow depth of field will isolate the bee by blurring the background. This is useful for other shots as well (for example, portraits). In these cases, use a large aperture and get closer to your subject."         Full Article

Konica Minolta to Withdraw from the Digital Camera Business

Konica Minolta Press Release Excerpt:
In camera business, we have expanded picture-taking opportunities by developing innovative technologies such as the world’s first autofocus cameras. In 1962, our camera, well-accepted for its high reliability, boarded on the US’s first manned spaceship “Friendship 7.” Also, ever since introduction of the world’s first body-integral autofocus SLR camera, Maxxum/Dynax series, in 1985, SLR cameras have become more popular among picture-takers, and we have succeeded in selling 16 million units of interchangeable lenses since then.          Full Article

Canon Powershot A620 Review at Photoxels

Photoxels reviewed the Canon Powershot A620 and said: "In the field, the Canon A620 performed extremely well. There was no fumbling with the controls, no frustration trying to set the functions you want, and the camera was point-and-shoot simplicity. Even though most of the functions are accessed thru the FUNC. menu, I found it well implemented and fast."         Continue Reading Review by Photoxels

Adjusting Camera ISO Speed

Eric Hartwell writes, "But if the light is fading and you don’t want to use flash, then the shutter speed for the same aperture might reduce to 1/30 or 1/15. At slow speeds like this you will find your shots are not as sharp due to camera shake. Here, you can switch to a higher ISO setting – for every doubling of the ISO you can halve the shutter speed. Therefore you will be able to use a faster shutter speed in low light conditions with a higher ISO."

Using a Polarizing Filter in Landscape Photos

TJ Tierney writes, "We use filters in photography to bring back an image to the way our eyes have perceived the original scene. Some times it's not possible for our cameras to record an exact scene - so we have to rely on the manufacturers of camera products.

If you are only going to buy one filter for your landscape photography a polarizing filter is the one you'll use most. A polarizing filter can be used with colour or black and white and is probably the most important filter on the market today."          Full Article

Nikon D200 Review at Imaging Resource

Imaging Resource wrote a review on the Nikon D200 and said: "The relatively minor (in my view) issue of the "corduroy" streaking aside, the Nikon D200 is simply a fantastic camera to shoot with, and its other image-quality parameters are absolutely first-rate. We'll have our usual in-depth review with detailed image analysis posted eventually, but the early results show that Nikon has come up with another real winner. There's a lot of sophistication in the D200's operation and available controls that just aren't available in the market at less than twice its price."      Continue D200 Review

Nikon Plans to Strengthen Digital Camera Line-up

Nikon Press Release Excerpt:
Following the success of our digital line-up over the last seven years, which has resulted in more than 95% of Nikon’s UK business being within the digital area, Nikon Corporation has made the decision to focus management resources on digital cameras in place of film cameras. This decision will allow Nikon to continue to develop products that match the demands of an increasingly competitive market place.

Despite this growing competition Nikon Corporation has continued to outperform the market, and has recently reported positive financial results which saw group net profit climb by 20% in the fiscal first half which ended in September.         Full Article
