Views on Portrait Photography from a Professional

P. Cox II writes, "Is there a place for the Ultra-conservative,
stiff, staid and boring, "Formal" "Classical" portraiture? Well,
I guess there must be! What comes to my mind is those life-size
painted scenes with Ma & Pa Kettle with cutouts for people to
put their faces in and have a picture taken. But obviously my
client I mentioned earlier had been to a studio producing just
that kind of photography, and they probably aren't the only
ones! But in my opinion, photographs of that nature are for
novelty purposes only. They certainly don't fit my definition of
a Portrait!"
