The Importance of White Balance Settings
Jessie
Robertson writes, "One has to understand white balance if you
want to program your camera. Learn enough about balancing when
your camera has no white balance mode. I had looked-up a Kelvin
color chart spectrum chart. 5000 K (K for Kelvin) is neutral
light. Our automatic white balance mode is set-up using a
neutral light measurement. To set a balance you can take a
picture of a non-glossy white surface, but first place it where
it is not in shadow. I use a small to medium piece of cut
cardboard and I carry it with me."

Flash
Photography with Digital Cameras
The
light from even a small flash is as powerful as the sun but,
given that it's only source of energy is a small battery, it can
only produce this amount of light for an extremely small period
of time - less than 1/1000th of a second. The actual length of
time the flash fires for is very carefully controlled by your
camera. During a flash exposure, your camera constantly monitors
the amount of light reaching the image sensor and shuts off the
flash as soon as the picture is exposed correctly.

Considering Megapixels when Camera Shopping
Ziv Haparnas writes, "The number of megapixels is just
one parameter in determining the quality of a digital camera.
More megapixels is not necessarily better. Before checking out
the number of megapixels or any other digital camera feature you
should take a moment to determine the digital camera projected
usage. If you intend to print enlargements you will need more
megapixels. If you need to take high zoom photos and crop pieces
of the photo you will need more megapixels too."

Digital Photography and Tripods
Colin
Aiken writes, "It's using a long zoom lens that requires the
fastest shutter speed more than freezing any action. This is
because the lens not only magnifies the image but equally, any
camera movement. Even when using a tripod, it's possible that
the camera will move during the shot causing blur. This is
because the very act of pressing the shutter may induce
movement. Although this will be very slight, the magnifying
effect of the lens will turn it into camera shake blur."
