Texture and Contrast in Photography
Tedric
Garrison writes, "Keep in mind that a snap shot is a
two-dimensional piece of paper. A photograph is a
three-dimensional work of art. What is it that makes the
difference? Often it ends up being contrast. The difference
between big and little, or the difference between smooth and
rough give us the viewer something to relate to. If you can’t
relate to an image, no matter what the subject matter, it’s very
unlikely you will have an emotional response."

Simple Tips for Professional Photos
Norm Bellisario writes, "Those precious moments come and
go quickly. Get them even if the framing and zoom are not
perfect. That can be fixed later. However, be sure to learn how
to properly use your auto focus. Very out of focus images are
something you can’t fix after the fact. Cropping your photos
creatively allows you to get a fantastic shot out of some not so
fantastic raw material. Once you’ve found a part of a photo you
like, crop away the extra stuff. Reveal shots that would have
been missed if you took too much time setting up before hitting
the shutter release."

White Balance Settings and Functions
James
Kelso writes, "The White Balance function adjusts the color
balance of digital cameras to adjust for tints in the
surrounding light. For instance, sunlight has a slightly
different tint to fluorescent lights, and the midday sun is
closer to white than the more yellow early morning sunlight.
Most cameras adjust to this automatically by finding an area of
white in the image and calibrating to that."
